Industry colleagues, clients and fellow engineers are the stars of the projects and young engineers shortlisted for the 2024 series of the ITA Tunnelling Awards.

25 finalists across seven categories comprise:

9 – Railway and metro projects

A major projects transforming rail services into city centres and others undergoing

necessary upgrades and renovation

3 – Road projects

One in the mega projects of the year and two in the renovation category,

including renovation of an immersed tube highway project

2 – Water management and CSO projects

A mega project of huge investment to prevent combined sewer overflows

into one of the most iconic rivers of the world and a treatment station outfall are finalists

in this vital water management and flood control sector of underground infrastructure

8 – Beyond engineering, AI and equipment innovations

Projects that harness the most advanced cutting-edge technologies available and apply them to underground projects including a small diameter hard rock TBM design to execute tight curves and accessible use of the space beneath a cemetery

3 – Engineers of the future

Young engineers making their way in the underground construction industry

These 25 finalists will present their projects during roundtable discussions at the ITA Awards Symposium on Thursday 28 November 2024 in Genoa, Italy.  Hosted by the Società Italiana Gallerie of Italy, one of the 80 Member Nations of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, the ITA Awards Symposium will be followed by the SIG annual conference on 29 November 2024 followed by an organised visit to the Terzo Valico dei Giovi highspeed railway project construction site on Saturday 30 November.

The three-day event of underground construction focus is supported and sponsored by leading industry companies CREG , SIKA , HERRENKNECHT
